nightpoems (in an effort to distract myself)

I couldn’t reach you
So I decided
to write her a poem.

Lately, I wake up recounting
my day with her.
Whispering at the movies.
Warming up to each other.
Wandering these streets.
Walking for hours, in search
of something to put in our bellies.

At night, when I’m home
I wake in the night and
My musings take me
directly to her lips,
usually painted blue.
I want to nibble and suck
and play there and there
and I want to not see her
as my best girl friend.

I want her
my lover. To love me.
Not like you love me.

I couldn’t reach you…again,
So I decided
to write her a poem.

She is a rainbow written
across a moonlit sky.
Tonight, I want to know what
she feels like in my mouth.
I imagine it’d be similar
to what you feel like.
She promises to be sweeter.
